DESCRIPTION: The Township of Randolph acquired 176 acres of wooded and open farmland in 1997, using Township and County funds. In 1999, Suburban Consulting Engineers, Inc. was retained to develop the concept plan, and advance the detailed design and permitting of the Freedom Park development, a 38-acre recreation facility. It contains 7 athletic fields, basketball courts, bike and pedestrian trails, a picnic pavilion, two concession stands with restrooms, maintenance garage, and parking. Most fields include athletic field lighting and irrigation systems. The project was bid in 2000 under four separate contracts, and construction was completed in mid-2002, with park dedication occurring in September 2002. SCE provided construction phase engineering services. The total project cost of $2.8 million was under budget, and the construction prices ($2.6 million) equaled the original contract bid prices.
